Port Salerno Map
Founded in 1894 the small town of Port Salerno sits along the waters of the St Lucie River near the inlet to the Atlantic Ocean. Originally the town was called Salerno, a name chosen by earlier settlers that were from Salerno Italy, the “Port” was later added in 1924.
During the early years people from the town made their living by fishing or by working in the pineapple farms. In the 1930’s it became known for its shark industry.
This waterfront district is located just south of the Manatee Pocket which is well know by boaters as a perfect place to take refuge from bad storms, locals know this as the “hurricane hole”. Along the shore of the Manatee Pocket you will find a lot of fishing related enterprises such as charter boats, commercial fishing boats, marinas, boatyards, and seafood restaurants with fresh catches of the day. The fishing fleet of the Manatee Pocket also supply the Seafood Festival held annually on the public docks. For the avid fisherman amongst you be sure to pop along to the world class sport fishing tournament another annually held event.
Known as an historic small fishing town Port Salerno is a town where you’ll find fisherman and local artists selling their goods. The Fish House Art Center and Gallery is a massive two-story building featuring fine arts, crafts, and wonderful creations. Artists have their workshops here and guests are invited to come along and see them at their craft; you will see painters, a ceramicist and a beaded jewelry artist. Make sure to stop for cake at the Twisted Craft & Creamery after and enjoy all manner of desserts.
With such a prominent fishing trade you can expect to find plenty of seafood restaurants serving the best of the days catch. You can also visit the Tausha’s Seafood Market open daily and serving over 100 varieties of seafood in the on-site restaurant.
Popular things to do here in Port Salerno include a visit to the Sailfish Splash Waterpark, launch you boat or paddleboard from Sandsprit Park, and enjoy wildlife of St Lucies Inlet Preserve State Park, and Seabranch Preserve State Park.
This charming small town is located in Martin County just 5 miles south of Stuart a beautiful coastal town with a picture postcard type setting. Other towns here include Jensen Beach with its historic downtown and Sewall’s Point a place of natural beauty surrounded by water.
